valley & co. entertaining :: valentine’s day sweets soirée

Our favorite season for whimsical holidays is upon us: Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter are treasured holidays all in a row and we really lean into the kitschy vibes. We dreamed up this delightful Valentine's Day Sweets Soirée to highlight beautiful cakes and sweets, simple near-spring blooms, and color galore!

Take a page from our entertaining book and throw a festive Valentine's Day bash and borrow some of our tips!

  • Gather your dearest for a Valentine’s Day dessert party
  • Serve up assorted desserts and mix it up with sweet and savory. Keep the menu edited and focused to 3-4 favorites or ask each friend or loved one to bring a favorite
  • Let dessert take center stage - a tiered cake can act as a playful focal point
  • Single types of flowers grouped in julep cups make for a refreshing accent
  • Get playful with candles! Whimsical dessert candles are unexpected and add a bit of magic to a table
  • Petite painterly cakes make for beautiful tabletop decor or as take-home treats for guests
  • Pull out your finest serving ware and linens
  • Mix-and-match patterns like stripes, swirls, and floral motifs
  • Amp up the color play and incorporate sweet pastels with their bolder color cousins (pale pink and light raspberry or soft sea blue and an inky turquoise)
  • Keep the play list lively but kitschy. Include all your favorite songs about sweets, candy, or dessert
