valley & co. entertaining :: festive 4th

It’s one of our favorites weeks of summer – the 4th of July is upon us! This year we’ll forego a tradition of being at the beach and will stay at home in the city – probably entertaining friends, trekking to our nearby zoo, and just relaxing. If you’re thinking about entertaining for the holiday, you don’t have to look very far to use what you have to throw a festive and fun red, white, and blue gathering! Here are a few tips from our summery editorial for Pottery Barn:

Clip from your garden and fill water glasses or pitchers with raspberry foliage and clematis to dress your table

Keep your drinks simple and offer a white wine, sparkling rose, and light beer alongside non-alcoholic lemonade

Stage pillows for easy lounging and toss out lawn games or playing cards to encourage nostalgic game time

Use lanterns as your table top focus – they’ll look magical as the night wears on and they’re in full glow mode

Dress the part! One of the easiest ways to make guests at your BBQ or fireworks viewing party feel festive is to dress in red, white, and blue! Or pink, white, and blue!

Use linen napkins to easily dress up tables. We used red and white ticking striped napkins but if you only have white, purchase striped ribbon and cinch them around napkins and tuck flatware inside. Also don’t hesitate to use real flatware to kick up the elegance factor, but if you’re all about keeping things super casual, use bamboo utensils
